Increased maximum character limits in components and better pagination supportBy: Carousel on Apr 1, 2008 |
If a part of your Carousel report work required displaying drilldown data that included description fields, this post is for you. Till yesterday, we had a Carousel engine limitation that restricted the amount of string data that can be fetched from salesforce. If the description exceeded 80+ characters, the field was truncated when that limit was reached. Good news is that it helped us learn tap dancing when our customers called us on it but bad news was that it constrained our customers.
DreamFactory Engineering released a fix to the Carousel engine today that increased that limit to 10K characters. Although this is about one-third the size of a salesforce long text field, we believe that anything exceeding 10K characters shouldn’t be in a drilldown. So, go ahead and pull those long text strings into your Scrolling Edit fields and Input Tables.
Well, what good is it to just fetch this data if it does not print properly? To solve that problem, we come to our next solution of the day - enhanced pagination support for display components! Scrolling Edit fields, Scrolling Static fields, and Input Tables paginate to display the extra characters that you have stored in salesforce as PDF, Word or HTML documents.
All you have to do to make use of this functionality is to make sure that you have the latest browser plug-in. That’s all. Please go to this page to choose the appropriate plug-in for your browser.
