SnapShot provides a highly visual way to compare these archived records and track changes over time, between different accounts, or between different user profiles. It is an indispensable tool for Release Management- documenting the modifications in your salesforce.com account, and aiding with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance or HIPAA regulations.
SnapShot can be used in three main ways:
Changes to an account can be compared over time. For example, SnapShot can be used to take a monthly picture of an account which is archived by date. This provides an important level of security by documenting all account modifications and changes at the schema level.
Entirely different accounts can be examined side by side. SnapShot will let you log into any account and take a picture. This feature provides important feedback for System Integrators about the exact differences between the accounts that they are working on.
The security settings for each user profile can be inspected inside a given account. Change the profile for a test user and take a SnapShot. Then compare the object permissions, security settings, and field visibility between different user profiles and the account administrator.
SnapShot is implemented as a Custom Tab or Custom Link in your salesforce.com account. There are no custom objects needed. SnapShot can also be accessed outside of salesforce with a simple URL link. In this case, SnapShot will not receive any single sign on information from salesforce, and will ask you to login to your account.
SnapShot provides graphical information about the database schema inside your salesforce.com account. The benefits of this approach include:
Document and archive all the changes to your salesforce.com account over time. See the changes as new AppExchange products are implemented
Compare your account before and after any modification. SnapShot provides source code control for your salesforce.com metadata
Audit security settings, field visibility, and object permissions. SnapShot provides independent verification of permissions, roles, and profiles.
SnapShot uses the DreamFactory Runtime rich client for XML and Web Services. This small, free download runs in any web browser and dramatically enhances user experience and product functionality. SnapShot also requires a Professional or Enterprise Edition account from salesforce.com.
SnapShot uses your personal computer to communicate directly with your salesforce.com account. All transactions take place directly between SnapShot and salesforce.com and are conducted using the Secure Sockets Layer protocol. All transactions conform to the AppExchange API security policy, and the policy that you have establised for the users in your salesforce.com account. No data is ever transmitted to us or to any other database. We never store your username or password. Our servers are only used for the initial download of the runtime control. The Security White Paper has additional information about DreamFactory Runtime security.
Professional services are available to customize your version of SnapShot, from building applications to on-site training to custom enterprise integration projects. Contact Ken Neff our Vice President of Professional Services for more information.
SnapShot is installed as a Custom Tab. No Custom Objects are required. When you "Get It Now" from the AppExchange, a Custom Tab will be added to your account. Alternatively, you can just use the link information documented below, and create a Custom Tab yourself.

SnapShot can also be accessed outside of salesforce with a simple URL link. Here is the URL link for SnapShot, note that this is the same link used above without the single sign on information:
